I's one thing to be a great photographer, a talent Master Dex has unmistakenly proven. But what he presented on Thursday to open his new exhibit is much more than great photography.

"Dex Does Vargas" is a series of artistically re-created images based on the world famous pin-ups by  Joaquin Alberto Vargas y Chávez in the 1960s and 70s, many of which were published in Playboy magazine. He also presented images based on a few other artists, most magestically "Lesbia" by John Reinhard Weguelin, but most of the show represented works by Alberto Vargas.

I cornered Master Dex and asked him about his techniques:

May I ask you which was the most challenging?  Hmm, let's see... I would say Fall Girl.. because of trying to simulate the wind. But the pose for "Next Trick" with Ju on her head... was tough.  I made all these poses from scratch.

So.. you needed to play with scripting? No... just used QAvimator.  It is free but it is really not easy to use --- lots of trial and error. It is a free program you use to create an animation file to upload. I think I spent at least 10 to 20 hours on each

Ahem, may I ask whose left boob this is? Those are my boobs. I have a female ALT I use for posing and tests.  I was trying out various demo hairs for some of the photos on her when I snapped a couple of photos

Do you plan to do other painters besides Vargas, Master Dex? Yes...I'm going to try to recreate some famous nudes from Manet, Degas, Titian etc. The "Lesbia" was the first test. That took about 30 hours of just setup.  I did some tests with me standing where Ju is, lol

Will you use any texture filters on top to simulate brush strokes? If you look closely, you'll notice that I have used some brush stroke textures. It is more pronounced in the background... less on her skin and face. That image is about 10 layers in photoshop and three planes deep in SL. I built the gate she is standing on and arranged mesh colums behind her and then a background painting way off in the distance. I'm very proud of that one.

I have to run for a bit. Thank you all for coming.. much appreciated. Come drink some champagne tomorrow!

Thank you Master Dex!
